| These charts were generated from research conducted on The DataPlace registered user database. The analysis showed, for the first time, the actual user segments and their relative sizes. These results were used to guide the design process in favor of the larger user roles . |

| Sun Instant Messenger Survey |
|
| A survey focusing on Instant Messenger features was conducted online with several hundred users. The results from the survey were used to prioritize features and focus the design effort. |

|
This survey was distributed at a Sun conference. The goals were to discover how customers provisioned their computer systems. The results from this survey were used to help guide the design of a patch management tool.
